Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has dismissed speculation of ill feelings between him and Liverpool striker Fernando Torres over Ballon d’Or as both Spaniards are in the shortlist to win the European Footballer of The Year 2008 award.
Reports of a rift between the two stars from La Furia Roja’s Euro 2008 title winning campaign, have done rounds after former Atletico Madrid ace Torres questioned the Spanish media’s favouritism towards Casillas having a strong case to win the accolade.
However, the Spain number one custodian has revealed that the two players have discussed the matter among themselves and there is no bitterness between them.
“We spoke about it,” Casillas is quoted as saying on setanta.com. “Fernando Torres is my team-mate and my friend, nothing else matters. This is the end of the controversy. Everything is crystal clear to us.
“We would all like to win medals, me as well. But to me the Ballon d’Or is not an obsession. I am just trying to do good things on the pitch and if something must happen it will happen.
“The good thing is that there are several Spaniards in the short-list this year.”
